The design team will be working closely with many sub-teams within Nucleate Dojo to create various graphical assets. To facilitate this process, internal communication guidelines and collaborative systems needs to be established to ensure that both parties (the designers & the sub-team needing the graphic) have full transparency on the requirement & timeline of any design deliverable.
Currently, there lacks a standardized system for tracking design requests and design resources are often inaccessible to members outside the design team. To address these challenges, we propose the following changes to improve our internal system:
→ Develop a maintainable design request system
→ Centralize and increase the accessibility of design resources
→ establish clear points of communication with different sub-teams
Design request system
Currently, we use a Slack-integrated workflow called Workast for the creation & tracking of design requests. Detailed tutorial can be found in Design Request 101
(⚠️ mandatory reading for any sub-team)
We are also exploring alternatives like TypeForm to address Workast limitations such as the lack of customizable templates. We are also open to hear any other suggestions of alternatives!
Centralization of resource
So far, we have reorganized the Figma workspace. In our Lunch & Learn presentation, we also introduced a General Event Template file for members outside of the design team to create any last-minute graphics in situations where neither designers are available.
We will be coordinating an Branding Office Hour in the upcoming week to go over our updated design request system, share design resources, and address any general FAQs.
(⚠️ mandatory attendance for at least one representative from any sub-team)
Points of communication
Nucleate Dojo currently has an established branding guideline that abides to general Nucleate requirements while preserving our unique identity. However, while the branding maintains a professional and sophisticated feel, it does not currently exude the sense of approachability that Dojo as an organization hopes to embody.
Moreover, as Nucleate Dojo rapidly expands into new initiatives, a new challenge to be confronted is how can we brand the initiatives in a way that preserves the coherence of Dojo’s identity while highlighting the uniqueness of individual initiatives.
As such, we propose the following changes to refresh our branding guideline:
→ Incorporating playful elements (e.g. colours, gradient, and graphics) into branding guideline
→ Work closely with individual sub-teams to develop suitable branding materials
