Application
- This year we had members send their optional video response to our email so they could submit it after their written app, but that required some manual work to keep that with their application. Next time, get video submission links just submitted on AirTable itself in one go with their application.
- Add question on application about where people reside to be able to judge if their internship would be a far move for them since not everyone goes to their home city’s university.
- Generally, start everything even earlier. Ideally 1-2 weeks of sneak peak for program, then 3 weeks for written applications, then 1-2 weeks to review + meet with team to decide interviews, then 1 week to schedule interviews, then 2-3 weeks of interviews, then 1-2 weeks to consolidate and decide applicants, then 2 weeks for onboarding, documents signing, etc.
Marketing
- Post DojoHouse member names as fellows on the website so people can reach out to them to ask for application reviews, see people from their school, etc.
- We have previous email lists created for a bunch of schools/ECs for the audience in an effort to diversify our candidates as much as possible and reach people who actually require access to the DojoHouse. Getting some insight into how much this works vs a different platform is better would be nice. Ex. maybe these should be advertised to IG/Twitter DMs of departments/individuals leading these orgs or maybe getting signed up for an email list where we send DojoHouse updates rather than relying on them to save our website/application form when they see it is more effective.
Interviews
- It was good to have two people review each application, but I wonder if there’s a more efficient way to have less bias in evaluation especially with less team capacity
- I think 30 mins was a good duration for an interview. Shorter may be possible, but I think having an option for the interviewer to decide with a few questions at the beginning if it’s worth continuing this interview or not is helpful.
- Try to get as many people helping out with interviews!! It takes a toll on you for sure.
Onboarding
- Onboarding was a bit last minute
